Understanding the language of the service

Duskavella uses specific terminology to describe how information is processed, presented, and accessed. This page defines those terms so that you can read the rest of the site with a clear understanding of what each concept refers to. Definitions are written to reflect how the terms are used on this site, not as general dictionary entries.

Information set
A collection of related information items that share a common context, origin, or relevance. Duskavella organises information sets by applying its classification framework to the items they contain, making the set navigable rather than simply large.
Classification
The process of assigning an item of information to a defined category within the service's taxonomy. Classification is the core operation the service performs on incoming data. It does not alter the content of an item; it determines where that item belongs within the organisational structure.
Taxonomy
The hierarchical system of categories used by Duskavella to organise information. The taxonomy defines what categories exist, how they relate to one another, and what kinds of information belong in each. The specific taxonomy applied depends on the service configuration in use.
Review interface
The user-facing layer through which organised information is presented and navigated. The review interface shows classified entries within their categories, supports filtering and narrowing, and provides the controls needed to move through the information set with purpose.
Category
A defined grouping within the taxonomy into which information items are classified. Categories have boundaries determined by the service configuration. An item can belong to one or more categories depending on how the taxonomy is structured for a given context.
Access enquiry
A request submitted by a user seeking access to the Duskavella service or to a specific part of its organised information. Access enquiries are submitted through the contact page, reviewed by the team, and responded to directly. They are distinct from general information enquiries, which do not require the same level of assessment.
Organised information
Information that has been processed through the classification layer and arranged within the service's taxonomy. Organised information is what the review interface presents to users. It represents the output of the service's core function rather than raw input data.
Filter
A tool within the review interface that narrows what is visible in the current view based on criteria such as category, date range, or type. Applying a filter does not remove information from the service; it refines the view to show only what matches the specified criteria.
Service configuration
The specific set of parameters, taxonomy definitions, and operational settings that determine how Duskavella behaves in a given deployment. The service configuration determines which categories exist, what information is within scope, and what access arrangements apply. Configuration details are not published on this site in their entirety.
Enquiry workflow
The sequence of steps involved in submitting, reviewing, and responding to an enquiry directed to the Duskavella team. The workflow begins when a user completes the contact form and ends when the team has provided a final response. Interim steps may include requests for clarification from the team.
